The Word of God:
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you (Jer 1:5).
LORD, we ask on this National Day of Prayer that You pour out the Holy Spirit upon this nation and her people. Forty years ago, the Supreme Court of our land legalized the horrific act of abortion. Since then, 53 million babies have been killed. We know from Your word that You love the little children. You knew them and blessed them before they were born as it is written:
Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, and the one who formed you from the womb. I, the LORD, am the maker of all things (Is 44:24).
Did not He who made me in the womb make him, and the same one fashion us in the womb (Job 31:15)?
Yet You are He who brought me forth from the womb; You made me trust when upon my mother’s breast. Upon You I was cast from birth; You have been my God from my mother’s womb (Ps 22:9-10).
For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them (Ps 139:13-16).
Thus says the LORD who made you and formed you from the womb, who will help you. Do not fear…(Is 44:2).
- You called upon Your servant Sampson from his mother’s womb to the day of his death (Jdg 13:7).
- Your prophet Isaiah was called from the womb; from his mother’s body You named him (Is 49:1).
- Isaiah was honored that he was formed from the womb to be a servant of the LORD (Is 49:5).
- The Apostle Paul proclaimed that he was set apart from his mother’s womb to reveal the Son of God (Gal 1:15-16).
- John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother’s womb (Lk 1:15).
- The wicked are evil from birth. From the womb they have been estranged (Ps 58:3).
Our Lord Jesus Christ said:
See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of My Father who is in heaven (Mt 18:10).
LORD, the children of our womb are the most innocent of Your flock. May the Holy Spirit change minds and convict hearts of those who have sinned against You. The politicians, doctors, clinics and patients who, without regard or fear of Your divine will, are equally guilty of this violent act executed upon the most vulnerable among us. The children are our inheritance, and their right to life is God ordained. We pray that You extend grace and mercy upon our nation; and blot out this culture of death that has separated us from Your good will and forgiveness.
Father, we ask these things in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In 1970, Norma McCorvey was a young woman seeking to abort an unwanted pregnancy. She hadn’t the means to seek the procedure so she carried the baby full-term and offered it up for adoption. McCorvey (Jane Roe) became the lead plaintiff in the infamous Roe v. Wade class-action lawsuit that was decided by the Supreme Court in 1973. The Court’s decision essentially legalized abortion.
McCorvey had a sordid family background that included alcoholism and abuse. She was raised a Jehovah’s Witness; dropped out of High School at 14; married at 16; pregnant three times before the age of 21; involved in a lesbian affair; converted to Christianity in 1994; became actively involved in the pro-life movement in 1995; and converted to Catholicism in 1998.
In 2005, she petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade; and in 2008, she supported Ron Paul for president due to his unyielding support for the civil rights of the unborn.
However, McCorvey has stated that she was used by the lawyers in the Roe v. Wade case. Having falsely testified that she was raped, thinking that would garner sympathy from the court, McCorvey simply confessed: All those years I was wrong. I was wrong. It was so clear. Painfully clear.
We have examined the data [compiled 1999-2008] from various sources including the Center for Disease Control, the National Institute of Health, and Planned Parenthood to share with our readers a profile of abortion in the United States.
- More than a million abortions are performed every year.
- The number of babies killed by abortion equals the number of soldiers killed in all of America’s wars.
- Every day, more babies are killed by abortion than those killed on 9/11.
- Planned Parenthood performs 300,000 abortions every year.
- About 4 in 10 of unwanted pregnancies end in abortion.
- One-fifth of all pregnancies are terminated.
- Women aged 20-29 accounted for 57.1% of all abortions reported.
The Center for Disease Control reported (2009) that 85% of all abortions were performed on unmarried women, and the reason given was unwanted pregnancy. Medical, rape or other reasons accounted for 13% of termination.
We have always argued that abortion was nothing more than birth control practiced by irresponsible people engaged in reckless and risky behavior.
Fornication is a sin. Abortion is murder. Permit us to sound like fuddie-duddies, but unmarried people should not be having sex. Sex is a gift from God to be shared within the bond of holy matrimony. Virginity is the greatest gift you can give your spouse. It is horrific to us that people will shamelessly violate the will of God, and the innocent will die. This nation is under the judgement of God, and abortion is just one cause.
Planned Parenthood, which so actively participates in the sin of infanticide, emerged from the American Birth Control League established by Margaret Sanger who opened the first birth control clinic in 1916.
Sanger, a controversial figure in the science of eugenics, believed that birth control was a useful method to ensure the stamina and fitness of the race. Her views have been debated by those who claim she supported sterilization and racial purity although she was praised by Martin Luther King, Jr. during his acceptance speech of the Margaret Sanger Award in 1966.
Finally, it is worthy to note that when a pregnant woman is murdered, or killed in an accident, the defendant can be charged with double homicide. Curious that the courts recognize the life and civil rights of the unborn.
